TONALLI STUDIO: Rediscovering, Retelling, Remembering
Noche de Ofrenda: NOVEMBER 1, 2015
No previous experience necessary.
Ages 8+, maximum number of participants 12.
A Monotype is created when you print an image that can't be replicated again. Usually it involves rolling or painting an image on plexiglass, cardboard or other hard surface and printing a single image on paper. A ghost of that image can be created by printing the plate again from the residue ink left on the surface.
A Monoprint is similar to a Monotype in the sense that no image printed is exactly alike but can be a variation on a theme. In a monoprint you can have a pattern or part of an image that is repeated either by using stencils or inked shapes. Both techniques produce single prints not editions of an image.
Participants will learn how to make unique prints utilizing simple utensils for printing such as a roller pin, a spoon, a barren
and a small portable press. We will use foam, cardboard stencils and other materials to create shapes and textures. We will learn many simple and exciting techniques to create one of a kind prints.
We will use water based inks. Bring an old T-shirt or apron to class.
